Craig Matheson and myself (seemingly independently) have developed some bouldering on the southern slopes of Caw, a prominent hill in the Dunnerdale Fells of the South West Lakes. Beautifully positioned with a lovely aspect, the principally south facing sectors offer up some decent and varied bouldering: from the imposing highballs on Hub’s Crag (plenty of pads required!) to the family friendly climbing around the Dragon Stone and Hublet. Thus far over 50 lines have been developed from 5 to 8A.
The area is best reached from Stephenson Ground (a farmstead a few miles north of Broughton-in-Furness). The FRCC have created a topo to the micro routes and bouldering of two of three sectors, this can be downloaded here. The Dragon Stone sector does not, as yet, feature on a topo but can be easily worked out in conjunction with the aforementioned topo and the information and map on the UKClimbing.com database.
