Chris Fisher and Ceara Hayden have cleaned up and recorded some problems on the obvious block overlooking the road at the base of Wrynose Pass, on the Duddon Valley side.
This block has been dabbled on by a few individuals over the years, however I suspect Chris and Ceara are the first to climb all the lines as sitters.
The duo climbed five lines in total, between 6B and 7A+ all of which are on the usual excellent rock this part of the Lakes is famed for. Chris has kindly put together a topo which can be downloaded via the link below:
I did all (or most of) these yonks ago, including sitters. And I’m pretty sure I sent in all the details at the time. No photo’s though. Would have been in the 90’s I suspect. I used the Fylde Mountaineering Club’s Little Langdale hut ladder to clean them up.
I also did some stuff on a boulder up at the top of Wrynose Pass on the south side. I have photo’s of the best problem there.
Hi Martin,
To be fair at no point did Chris claim any of these as new lines, he just said they were good and sent me the topo.
The blocks you told me about at the top of the pass do get a mention in my guidebook. I honestly can’t remember you telling me you’d climbed the stuff on this particular block but if you did apologies for overlooking it.
Cheers, Greg
