Lad Stones

Lad StonesArea Summary

Centring on two gargantuan blocks (each similar in size to the Bowderstone!), orbited by a number of smaller (relatively speaking) boulders, Tilberthwaite’s ‘Lad Stones’ is one of the must-visit hardcore venues of the Lakes. The size and intimidating nature of the blocks has made them an acquired taste but has meant they do offer some truly inspiring highball lines, such as Groove Armada (7c+/V10), the King Cobra style hanging groove, Traci Lords (7c+/V10), The Death Clock (7b+/V8), and the fabulous Warstarter (7b+/V8).

In recent years the landings have been improved and the rock has become more solid with use, however, it is worth taking a stiff brush as some off the faces see little sun and odd holds can sometimes be a little dirty. It goes without saying that the area is also best visited with at least a couple of pads and a spotter. A new guide is currently under construction, but in the meantime there is some additional info (and a topo of the Warstarter face) here.
