St. Bees Head - North

Area Summary
It wasn't too long ago that if you told someone you were off to St. Bees, for a days bouldering, they wouldn't have heard of the place, and if they had it was purely on a sport climbing level. Over the last few years, with the promotion of the area through this site, magazine articles and the Lakes Bouldering Rockfax guide, the area has rightly become recognised and renowned as one of the best bouldering locations in the UK.
The boulders are generally situated on sandstone platforms below the sea cliffs (which feature the previously mentioned sport climbs), with most blocks offering a range of arête, face, and on occasion crack climbs, forged from a sumptuous red, fine grained sandstone. As with all sandstone venues, it is best avoided after wet weather as the rock becomes friable.
Bird Restrictions: Please check the BMC's Access Restrictions PDF, to see if your desired sectors are effected by any seasonal bird bans here.
